About Dr. Ember Carianna
Dr. Ember Carianna is a healthcare provider specializing in natural healthcare for the treatment and prevention of disease and the optimization of health and wellness. She treats individuals of all ages and health status with a wide variety of diagnoses, including patients with chronic or recurrent illness, for the prevention of illness, or for health optimization.
Her medical philosophy is based on naturopathic medical principles; treatment of the whole person, not just their disease, trying to identify and manage the causes of disease, emphasizing self-care, and patient education and prevention whenever possible. Treatment plans are very individual and Dr. Carianna believes in the use of the least invasive medical care that is effective, and of course, she refers to other medical professionals, conventional or complementary, if she believes a patient would benefit most elsewhere. Her practice focuses on the use of Acupuncture, Botanical medicine, Homeopathic medicines, Lifestyle approaches, and Nutritional medicine which includes orthomolecular medicine, or the use of naturally occurring approaches which includes vitamins, minerals, amino acids, neurotransmitters, etc.
EDUCATION AND LICENSING:
Dr. Carianna received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the National University of Naturopathic Medicine (NUNM, formerly NCNM) in 1987 and then completed a Master’s degree in 1988 from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM). Federally regulated and accredited naturopathic medical training consists of four years of an undergraduate premedical education, then a four year postgraduate course of medical studies which includes a conventional medical school curriculum with additional specialized coursework in a wide variety of natural therapeutics followed by rigorous federally regulated medical board exams (NPLEX). The same year she received certification in Homeopathic Medicine at NCNM, she passed national acupuncture board exams and was granted a Diplomate in Acupuncture by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She received a naturopathic medical license in Oregon in 1987 and in Connecticut in 1988. She received her acupuncture license in Massachusetts in 1988 and has been licensed as an Acupuncture Physician (AP) in the State of Florida since 1990. Although Florida has had statutes governing the practice of Naturopathic medicine since 1904, the State has had no governing board in Naturopathic Medicine since 1974 so Dr. Carianna currently practices only and strictly within the scope of the statutes of the Florida Board of Acupuncture. Acupuncture physicians in the state of Florida can utilize a variety of medical therapies including nutritional and dietary medical approaches, botanical medicine homeopathic preparations, and of course acupuncture, moxibustion, and related therapies.
